“Harry Potter” Is Officially the Best-Selling Book Series in History!

Prepare to be… you know… wildly unsurprised. Your favorite book series is now officially the best-selling book series ever.

The seven books that chronicle boy wizard Harry Potter, as well as the series’s multiple spinoffs and source books, now clock in at more than half a billion copies moved worldwide. According to a report from SyFy Wire, that puts it in the record books as history’s #1 series. The collected library rides comfortably alongside total copies sold of the classic Don Quixote.

The numbers knock other classics like The Chronicles of Narnia and The Lord of the Rings out of the park numbers-wise. However, the best-selling single volume in history still remains the Bible, at 6 billion strong and growing.

Want to show your love for this amazing series? Come to the second year of PotterVerse! Plans are underway for an amazing guest list and series of panels that cover all aspects of the wizarding world. Register now and get the best price for you and your family!

Andrew Lincoln Tells Us “Stuff and Things” About Quidditch in New Audiobook

For those wanting to immerse themselves in the world of Harry Potter but with less reading time than desired, there are always audiobooks — and Pottermore is working with Audible to put out some classic titles from the Hogwarts Library! First up, and coming very soon, you can verse yourself on the history of every wizard and witch’s favorite sport.

Quidditch Through the Ages will be coming to Audible this spring, in plenty of time for your summer road trips (to PotterVerse, maybe?) The book will be read by Andrew Lincoln, known across the US as Rick Grimes in The Walking Dead.

You can preorder the book now for $14.95, or get it free with a 30-day trial.

So how does Quidditch captain Oliver Wood (Sean Biggerstaff) feel about the choice?

Fair enough.

Want more Hogwarts fun this summer? Register for PotterVerse now! Our fan-favorite, history-making event will be back again this August with more guests, more panels, and more family programming for you to share with fellow fans!

Hogwarts in the Palm of Your Hand: A New “Harry Potter” Game!

If you (like us!) have been wishing an owl would arrive to drop off your Hogwarts acceptance letter… well, you don’t have much longer to wait! Warner Bros. and Jam City Games are collaborating to put the Wizarding World in the palm of your hands this year, thanks to Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery.

The game will let you create your own witch or wizard and attend Hogwarts as contemporaries of Bill Weasley and Nymphadora Tonks. You’ll be able to choose pets, go to class, duel with friends, and apparently even form relationships with fellow students! Check out the trailer for what has been revealed so far:

Hogwarts Mystery is the first title under the newly-formed Portkey Games, which will be devoted to creating gaming experiences inspired by J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world.

The game is  not yet playable, but the official website is open. Much more about the games — such as whether it will be free to play with in-app purchases or paid up-front — is still unknown. But you can “pre-register” for the app on their website to stay up-to-date with the latest news. We have… will you?

We can’t wait to see what it’s like being a wizard in the world of Hogwarts… and in the meantime, we’re bringing a bit of the wizarding world to Maryland! Register now for PotterVerse 2, and be ready for news on guest announcements, programming, and more!

Check Out the Scottish Apartment Every “Harry Potter” Fan Will Love

Here at PotterVerse, we pride ourselves on being an ideal getaway for Harry Potter fans. But we’ve gotta admit that this Hogwarts-themed Edinburgh apartment probably (probably) has us beat.

Canongate Luxury Apartment underwent huge renovations to become the fans’ dream getaway that it is now, but you’d never know it was once anything but Potter chic. Every room in the house is decorated to be evocative of a setting from the series, from Gryffindor’s common room to Platform 9 3/4.

You can snooze in a cozy bedroom decked out to look like a carriage on the Hogwarts Express, complete with a model just outside (and no noisy rattling). There are also several pieces in the house that once belonged to J.K. Rowling herself, like a giant mirror with a frame made from an old railing.

If you’re looking for specific scenes from the films or books, though, you won’t exactly find them here. The owner didn’t want the rooms to look like copies of the set — rather, decor and props bring you the feel of the series. It’s a great way to experience and get closer to the material — especially considering many of the items have been found from locations around the world!

Staying in the house will cost you a little over $200/night, with prices fluctuating depending on the time of year. But if you’re ever in Scotland and want a trip to remember with your family, it could be worth it!

Be sure to check out their official site for bookings, and Digital Spy’s article on the apartment for more photos!

Can’t make it to Scotland? We’re still here for you this August! PotterVerse 2 will be taking place in Rockville at our new hotel. Register now and be ready for our guest and panel announcements as they happen!

And if you don’t have a car, you’re still in luck: the hotel is less than 1/4 mile from the subway station, and a short Uber or Lyft ride (3.7 miles) from the train station!

Make sure to register now and grab you room at the same time!

PotterVerse in the Press!

PotterVerse hit big during its first year, and we were privileged to have NPR on site reporting from the event!

Hidden Brain host Shankar Vedantam interviewed several of our attendees about their choice of Hogwarts House, and what identifying as a Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, or Slytherin meant to them. The interview was part of a 50-minute feature on personality tests — what they are, and what they say about who you are vs. who you can become.

You can listen to the episode and read the accompanying article on the NPR website. Click here for a transcript.

Want to be part of next year’s sorting and shenanigans? Registrations are now open for PotterVerse 2! Register now to get the best price for you and your family. Guest announcements will be forthcoming, so don’t miss out!

PotterVerse Returns ~ Join Us Jan. 4 for the Big Date Reveal!

Before PotterVerse 1 even ended, you came to us asking if there’d be another. And at the time, we weren’t sure. We wanted to have an answer for you so much. But we didn’t have all the info we needed to make a promise.

Until now.

PotterVerse will be back for a second year! And we’re dropping the date, venue, and opening registration on January 4 (this Thursday) at 6 pm Eastern. We’ll also be opening applications for Panels, Vendor Room, and Artist Alley at this time.

Want to be among the first to get the news? RSVP to our Facebook event and you’ll be alerted right away when the news comes out. Remember, RSVPing to the date reveal event is not the same as RSVPing for the event itself — you’re not under any obligation to go anywhere. All you have to do check your notifications.

Remember: this Thursday, 6 PM Eastern!

And if you’re a Doctor Who fan looking for something to do this spring, check out our sister event, (Re)Generation Who! Tickets are currently at their best price — so if you want to meet Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Michelle Gomez, Rachel Talalay, and many more guests from across the Whoniverse, hop on over and register now!
